LAHORE
THE Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought personal appearance of National Highway Authority’s chairman to explain reasons for not implementing an order about payment of arrears to an employee.
A computer operator of the NHA, Sohail Latif, filed a contempt of court petition pleading that the authorities were not releasing his withheld arrears of 11 years despite a court order. He asked the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the NHA chairman and other authorities concerned.
A deputy director of the NHA told the court that the matter of the petitioner was under consideration and would be resolved soon.
The court, however, expressed serious dismay over the authority’s attitude towards judicial order. It observed that delaying implementation of the court order was amounted to mock them.
The court directed the NHA chairman to appear in person next week and justify the non-compliance of the order.
