The first stroke centre in any hospital in Pakistan is inaugurated by neurosurgeon Prof Anjum Habib Vohra at Lahore General Hospital.
According to a press release issued on Sunday, the stroke centre headed by the head of Neuro-Radiology Department Dr Umair Rasheed Ch would be run with the financial assistance of a well-known social organization “Akhuwat”. Medical Superintendent LGH Dr Saeed Sahoban and representatives of “Akhuwat” have signed an MoU in this respect.
On the occasion, Prof Anjum Habib Vohra while talking to the media said LGH had established a good name in the list of teaching hospitals of the city, especially in research for new treatments of diseases. He said patronage of Punjab CM and financial assistance of philanthropists had gone a long way to achieve their targets by the hospital administration.
Responding to questions about the stroke centre, Prof Vohra paralysis was the third most common disease after heart attack and cancer in western countries. Major causes to this ailment are smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and lack of physical exercises.
We face more problems like pollution and mental stress in Pakistan compared to developed countries which results with high graph of this disease, he said and added it was a matter of grave concern that in our country the ratio of this disease is on rise in people of age group from 30 to 40 years.
