Young doctors, paramedics stage demo against MTI Act
MULTAN: The young doctors, nurses and paramedics on Monday staged a demonstration against the proposed Medical Teaching Institutions Act here. The protesters gathered in front the Nishtar Hospital and chanted slogans against the act. However, not a single member from the All Pakistan Medical Association Multan chapter joined the protest. Speaking on the occasion, YDA president Farhan Aslam strongly condemned the MTI Act and said it was against the interests of patients and doctors. He said that the doctors’ community had serious reservations against the MTI Act. He said that the grand alliance of young doctors, nurses and paramedics would continue their protest till acceptance of their demands. YDA Punjab vice-chairman Dr Khizar Hayat said that the government would not be allowed to privatise government hospitals. He threatened to boycott emergency wards of the government hospitals if their demands were not met. Young Nurses Association representative Saima and Shaheen and Unity of Nishtar Medical University Rana Omer also spoke.
