Executive Board approves Bajwa’s appointment as PHF secretary

KARACHI: Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) executive board unanimously approved the appointment of Olympian Asif Bajwa as the secretary general at PHF secretariat in Lahore on Monday.

President PHF Brig (Retd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar presided over the meeting, which was attended by the secretaries of all four provincial associations, General Manager Pakistan Women’s Hockey Mrs.

Tanzeela Amir Cheema and other executive board members. KP association presented Bajwa’s name for PHF secretary and Sindh association endorsed it. After the executive board meeting, the PHF secretary addressed a press conference along with the provincial secretaries and board members. “Our first and foremost duty is to stabilise the federation’s affairs which can lift the status of hockey in Pakistan,” he said. He further said that for the restoration of Pakistan hockey all provinces would work together and revive club hockey.

The board and president PHF have decided that details of the federation accounts would be issued on the PHF website every quarter. National Hockey Championship would be held after Eid, the secretary said.

“We are planning to organise a professional hockey league at the end of this year. We made a big mistake when we missed the FIH Pro League as it led to a heavy fine. We will see how it can be resolved. We will talk to the FIH president Narinder Batra in this regard,” the secretary said.
