SUKKUR: Five bogies of the Quetta-bound Bolan Mail derailed near Madeji due to cracks in a dyke of Dadu Canal on Tuesday. Several passengers were injured when the bogies of the train derailed near Madeji in Shikarpur district of Sindh due to cracks in embankment of Dadu Canal and the gushing out water weakened the rail track, making a hole beneath it, which resulted in the accident. The rescue teams rushed to the place of the incident and launched relief operations. They reached the area and started helping the passengers. DS Railways said five additional bogies had been attached with the Akbar Bugti Express for the victim passengers of Bolan Mail. He said the Railways provided alternative transport facility to the victims so as they could reach their destinations. He said the affected portion of the railway track could only be repaired when the breach in the dyke was repaired. He said eight passengers were injured in the incident. SSP Shikarpur Saqib Ismail Memon, DC Shikarpur and other officials rushed to the place and provided food and other logistics to the victims. Meanwhile, Irrigation Minister Sindh, while taking notice of the breach, suspended two officials of the department. The irrigation officials also said some miscreants had made the breach and demanded investigation.
