The Peshawar Development Authority has proposed a flyover at the entrance of Gate 3 Hayatabad in the provincial capital. Based on my experience and a traffic study, the KP government and the PDA are advised that a much more important project to alleviate the traffic issue is the construction of an elevated highway on University Road from Aman Chowk to Hayatabad Phase 3 – a stretch of 7km.
This artery takes the brunt of traffic that has already reached a saturated point and will be totally unmanageable with the future increase in traffic, especially when the Regi township starts developing. At present it takes at least 45 to 50 minutes to traverse this reach which would not take more than seven minutes if an elevated highway were built.
