KARACHI: The 65th National Hockey Championship scheduled to be held from April 20-May 2 has been postponed and will now be organised after Eid–ul-Fitr at Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey stadium, ‘The News’ learnt on Friday.
The national championship was to begin at Dr Muhammad Ali Shah-Islahuddin Academy in North Nazimabad because of World Soccer Stars match at Edhi stadium on April 27. Due to the arrangements of the football match, the matches from April 20 to 27 were to be organised at Dr Shah-Islahuddin academy. The rest of the matches were to be played at Edhi stadium.
Sources said the participating teams refused to play their matches at Dr Shah-Islahuddin Academy. Secretary Sindh Hockey Association (SSA) Ramzan Jamal confirmed that the championship had been postponed. However, the PHF did not announce the postponement officially. PIA team also postponed its training camp in Karachi, the sources said.
