ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has extended until April 29 the interim bail of former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur in the fake accounts case.
A divisional bench, comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiani, also ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to share the details of the cases against the siblings with the court.
Hearing the bail petitions of Zardari and Talpur on Wednesday, the court asked the NAB prosecutor to apprise it of the ongoing investigations and inquiries against the PPP leaders. The court also asked the NAB officials to specify the inquiries in which Zardari had not been summoned so far.
NAB prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi told the court that there were three inquiries and two investigations under way against Zardari. He said he could only share the details of the cases in which the former president had been summoned. The NAB officials then requested the bench to grant them time to submit a reply regarding Zardari and Talpur’s bail plea.
Addressing the former president, Justice Farooq asked why he had brought so many political supporters to the court. Zardari’s counsel, Farooq H Naek, replied on Zardari’s behalf, saying his client had prevented his supporters from coming to the trial court as well as the Islamabad High Court. The court then extended the interim bail of Zardari and Talpur until April 29, and also sought the cases’ details from the NAB.
