LHC orders decision in Ali Zafar case within 90 days
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday ordered additional district & sessions court to conclude a defamation law suit of singer Ali Zafar against female signer Meesha Shafi in 90 days.
Justice Masood Jahangir issued this order on the petition of Meesha Shafi challenging the order of district & sessions judge wherein trial court was asked to wrap up the case in one month time.
Setting aside the lower court order, Justice Jahangir observed, “Trial court shall conclude the case in 90 days instead of 30 days after receiving the copy of this order.”
Meesha Shafi in her petition had argued that the order to decide the case in one month was in contradiction with ground realities. She sought more time to produce witnesses in her favour in the case against Ali Zafar, who she alleged sexually harassed her and others on multiple occasions.
In April, last year, Meesha Shafi on Twitter had alleged that fellow musician and actor Ali Zafar had sexually harassed her on multiple occasions.
Following the allegations, Ali Zafar had filed a Rs1 billion defamation suit against her.
