Faulty police vehicle light-bars disturb commuters
Islamabad : National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) reluctant to remove faults from bar-lights which are mounted on police vehicles despite several complaints of temporary blindness by commuters plying on motorways and highways.
The authority is not only taking any notice of complaints but also not taking any action against the supplier who provided faulty and costly light-bars.
According to the sources around two years before NH&MP purchased 200 US brand ‘Whelen’ light-bars from supplier who charges around Rs600,000 for each light (almost one-third of the price of the vehicle on which the light was mounted).
National Highway and Motorway Police has spent millions of rupees and got faulty light-bars, but no one has taken any notice of such ignorance.
Light-bars installed at the patrolling squads of NH&MP are source of dazzle and cause temporary blindness to commuters plying on motorways and highways. The bright light-bars are creating disturbance for commuters and causing accidents on motorways and highways.
In this regard, several complaints were lodged with the NH&MP portal, media and social media, but no heed was given to the issue.
Sources told that two years before at the time of supply then NH&MP chief instructed the supplier to remove the fault but he had already taken his payment, so neither the supplier respond to the issue nor department blacklisted him.
Source further told that light bars for police patrolling vehicles were not purchased as per specifications also. The specifications which were mentioned in the tenders published in the newspapers clearly mentioned fog lamps on the rear and front of the bar, suppliers cheated and provided fog lamps in the light-bar was only installed in the front and back fog lamps were missing, as fog lamps are very expensive items.
Light-bars which are mounted at the police patrolling cars are not according to the specifications that’s shows either the supplier done forgery with the department or department concealed the eyes on the issue.
Who so ever responsible for the purchase of expensive and faulty light-bars the commuters plying on motorways and highways are facing problems and are at high risk.
This corresponded contacted official spokesperson of National Highway and Motorway Police to get version of NH&MP over the issue and waited for around two weeks to get official version, despite of several reminders through e-mails and whatsapp messages but no response was received from NH&MP authorities.
