Finance Minister Asad Umar has announced that due to a decrease in natural gas, import of fertilizers was allowed by the ECC. In Pakistan, economic growth has already come to a standstill. What we understand is that such a measure will further hamper growth of the economy. This is detrimental to the fertilizer industry within the country.
I am no economist nor an expert in agriculture and fertilizers but what I understand is that it may be better to allow the fertilizer industry use imported LNG. We could possibly say that the import of raw materials and affordable prices of everything needed to make a finished product out of raw materials, for example, electricity, wages, security, etc, must be considered a priority. The government is requested to re-consider its decision.
