KARACHI: A two-member delegation of Marta Women FC met the Consul General of Italy here the other day.The delegation comprised the club’s president Raees Khan and senior vice-president Syed Shabbir Hassan.
The delegation gave a detailed briefing about the club to the Consul General Anna Ruffino who took keen interest in learning about women football in Pakistan.Raees apprised her of the foundation of the club and its role in women football promotion in Karachi.
Anna said that Pakistan had an abundance of talent. However, she was quick to add that there was a need to nurture the talent through a proper system.
She said that there were various cadres of women football clubs in Italy and offered Marta Women FC that she would arrange a tour for the team after having known which quality of football the club could play.
Raees thanked Anna for the offer, saying his club would coordinate with the Consulate-General of Italy in Karachi and would seriously pursue the tour so that the players could learn something from the Italian clubs. Founded in 2011, Marta Women FC have been featuring in various women events.
The club also organised several women football tournaments in Karachi and coaching clinics for the youth in schools and colleges across the city.
