ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Governing body meets in Quetta on April 17 to consider among other things future constitutional framework according to the recommendations of the Task Force established for the purpose.
A vibrant discussion is also on cards to make the domestic cricket structure according to the roadmap given by the Patron in Chief and Prime Minister Imran Khan during his recent audience with the board officials.
A well-placed source within the Governing Board hierarchy confirmed to The News that Quetta would host the GoB meeting on April 17 as the Board wanted cricket activities (administrative and cricketing) in all parts of the country.
“The PCB this time has decided to host the GoB meeting in Quetta. The meeting that would be chaired by chairman PCB Ehsan Mani is expected to discuss among other things future formation of the PCB constitution according to recommendations of the Task Force working on this important matter. Task Force head on constitutional affair is expected to discuss the lines on which the constitutional framework is being finalized. He is expected to get required feedback from the GoB members.” The PCB chairman Ehsan Mani in his recent interview with The News made it clear that once new Managing Director takes over, he would start focusing on the formation of new constitution. The formation of the new constitution has become all the more important as the PCB Task Force is also working on giving the national cricket it’s new first class cricket structure.
Just a few days back the Prime Minister who is also the patron in Chief of the board gave a clear roadmap to the Task Force on Domestic Cricket as to what were there limitations. He made it clear that first class cricket should only be played amongst set area teams regional or
provincial. “The new first class cricket structure would now be finalized according to the Prime Minister directions,”
“Now when the PCB Task Force has to look to one direction only when it comes to formation of new domestic cricket structure, the Task Force work has already been cut short. So it is likely that during the meeting in Quetta, the new domestic cricket structure would come up for one last discussion. Even chances are that the new domestic structure gets the GoB backing,” one of the members when contacted said.
Apart from the two important matters, the formation of Pakistan team would be discussed. By that time it is expected that selection committee headed by Inzamamul Haq would have finalized the squad for the England tour and later for the World Cup.
