Nawaz undergoes medical tests

LAHORE: Physicians of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who underwent detailed medical examination at Sharif Medical City Hospital on Saturday, prescribed monitoring his heartbeat by fixing a Holter at his chest for the next week, besides carrying out echo test and also discussed possibility of implanting a pacemaker.

The doctors decided about both the tests after Nawaz Sharif’s ECG showed abnormalities, said the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) sources, adding that a team of medical experts’ also detected disturbed blood flow through left artery of his heart. Apart from that, the doctors also decided to carry out testing his eyesight in view of finding higher blood glucose levels.

Doctors were concerned at the abnormal ECG readings, and discussed the option of implanting pacemaker for normalising the heartbeat. The physicians also decided to conduct echo test and monitoring his heartbeat at an interval of 24 to 48 hours by fixing Holter during the next week. The doctors also took blood samples of Nawaz Sharif for carrying out different clinical tests. The eye specialists also examined eyes to assess the negative impact of deteriorating diabetes. The dentist also examined the condition of his teeth.

The PML-N leader, who is serving seven years sentence in Al-Azizia reference, was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail three days ago after the Supreme Court granted him bail for six weeks for conducting medical treatments.

On Friday, the doctors examined Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence and advised him to visit the hospital on Saturday. He visited the hospital and stayed there for two hours for detailed assessment of the heart and kidney diseases and normal checkup of eyes and teeth.

The blockade of main road during the visit of Nawaz Sharif led to massive traffic jam. The hospital's management also denied entry to the visiting patients and their attendants to the hospital during that period.
