CTO asks students to help implement traffic rules

LAHORE: Chief Traffic Officer Capt (r) Liaqat Ali Malik has said the younger generation has capabilities to make the future of Pakistan bright and it can play a vital role in implementation of the traffic rules and regulations to prevent accidents.

He expressed these views during his address to the students at a private university on Wednesday. He said that minor mistakes on roads resulted in fatal accidents. The road users should not only be careful for only their own safety but also for the others’ safety. The CTO told the students that remarkable steps were being taken to maintain the flow of traffic and prevent accidents. He claimed there was 83 per cent reduction in head injuries in incidents as a result of the ongoing campaigns for use of helmet and seat belt. He emphasised on implementation of the rules regarding the line, lane, stop line and traffic signal. He also asked the students to play their role in educating the citizens on the traffic rules for their safety. The chancellor of the university said the role of citizens was important in maintaining the flow of traffic along with the traffic police.

FOUR DIE ON ROADS: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 935 accidents in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, four people died whereas 1047 were injured. Out of the injured, 632 were seriously injured requiring shifting to different hospitals. Whereas, 415 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site by Rescue Medical Teams thus reducing the burden of hospitals.

DELEGATION: A team of doctors from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday visited the Rescue Headquarters and Emergency Services Academy. The delegation is here to attend the National Emergency Medicine Conference being held at King Edward Medical University, Lahore in order to improve patient care by developing Emergency medicine specialty. The delegation was comprising four members led by Dr Nargas Daliri Chairman International organizing and scientific committee consultant Pedatric Emergency Medicine from Riyadh, Dr Farouq Member (IO&SCCPEM), Dr Talal al Kindy Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon from Jeddah, and Dr Sami Al-Kindy Senior Consultant Head and Neck Surgeon Taif University, KSA. The Founder Director General Punjab Emergency Service, Dr Rizwan Naseer, welcomed the delegates and stressed upon the need to establish and strengthen the emergency medical specialty in Emergency Departments of Hospitals.
