Islamabad : Director-Script-Producer: Ozhen Eren
Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) and Embassy of Turkey bring film ‘Last Letter’ in PNCA on March 28 at 7 p.m.
Films began in Turkey in 1914. The golden age came in 1960s during which Turkish films began winning distinguished awards at international film festivals. Looking back, films have taken up daring and challenging subjects. ‘Time to Love’ (1965) showed a painter falling in love with a photograph of a girl but not loving the girl. ‘The Road’ (1982) revolved around the life of a prisoner on a week’s home leave. ‘Winter Sleep’ (2014) dealt with an actor who runs a small hotel.
Turkey came out last year with 178 films. The most popular film of the year was ‘Muslum’ on the life of a singer who passed away in 2013. ‘The Wild Pear Tree’, ‘Pigeon’, ‘Announce’, ‘Nebula’ and the ‘Plane Tree’ were notable titles.
And now ‘Last Letter’. It is 1915. The young hero, a flighter pilot, has recently lost his wife. He is on his first flight mission to Gallipoli. Engaged in air missions, he meets a nurse in a hospital and saves the life of a young boy. Love blossoms through writing letters and then the ‘Last Letter’.
The film was commissioned for the Centenary of the Turkish Air Force by the government. ‘Last Letter’ is a multi-million project where airplanes used were built to match the original planes from 1915. Aerial sequences were filmed with computers.
