48 polling stations declared most sensitive and 77 sensitive; 2,000 troops and 1,800 cops to maintain peace

GILGIT: Polling for electing 24 new members of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly will be held today.
The polling will start at 8 am and continue till 4 pm. At least 271 candidates of 16 political parties are in the field.Among the candidates 24 belong to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), 22 to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), 21 to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), nine to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and 12 to All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).
Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Islami Tehreek-e-Pakistan have given ticket to 10 candidates each.Meanwhile, a comprehensive security plan has been devised to maintain peace during Gilgit-Baltistan elections while the Army in collaboration with other enforcement agencies will be on high alert to avoid any untoward situation.
According to police sources, 48 polling stations were declared most sensitive, 77 sensitive and 83 normal, while 2,000 personnel of Pakistan Army and 1,800 cops were deputed to maintain law and order.
Police have also installed 112 CCTV cameras to ensure strict surveillance at the entry and exit points of the polling stations.A control room to monitor security has been setup at Gilgit police lines.The election campaign for the polls ended Saturday midnight. The Election Commission has finalized all arrangements to hold elections in a free, fair and transparent manner.
