SIALKOT: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Senator Rehman Malik Wednesday said accountability must be done carefully.

Talking to reporters after offering funeral prayers for his sister, the PPP leader said careless accountability could cause any tragedy.

Malik said a number of cases based on bias and hatred had been framed against ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto Shaheed in the past, and former President Asif Ali Zardari was jailed for 12 years. But nothing was proved against them, he said. The senator said the current government and the institutions must not bypass the law. \

They must avoid crossing limits, he maintained. “Any blunder committed today, can become an FIR tomorrow,” he said. Malik opined that 'deals' and 'political reconciliation' were a part of politics.

Nawaz Sharif had made cases against Benazir Bhutto but later signed ‘Charter of Democracy’ with her, he said.

Malik said the present closeness between the PPP and the PML-N was not strange as it was part of politics.

He said an alliance between PPP and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) was possible according to the future situation. Malik said Indian Prime Minister Modi had unsuccessfully tried to win elections by resorting to anti-Pakistan rhetoric in India.

He praised Armed Forces for giving a befitting response to the Indian government.
