HARIPUR: District Nazim Raja Nasir Kiyani died at the age of 45 here Tuesday morning.
Family sources said that Kiyani, who had a previous history of the cardiac problem, was preparing to leave for Pandak village for attending the funeral of a local Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader, Muhammad Younas when he complained of severe chest pain at around 10:30 am. He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital but he could not survive. According to doctors, Kiyani died of cardiac arrest. The deceased is survived by a widow and two children. Late Kiyani was elected as district councillor from his native union council Darwesh in 2015 on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ticket. He was elected district nazim on January 17 after a vote of no-trust was passed against his predecessor Adil Islam on January 14. Last month, Kiyani was injured in a road accident when his official car skidded off the motorway and overturned near Charsadda, while he was going to meet the chief minister. He, his gunman and driver was injured.
His funeral prayer was offered in Darwesh village and attended by councillors, nazims, political parties’ activists, MPAs and MNAs from PTI, lawyers and people from other walks of life. He was buried in his ancestral graveyard in the village.
