The Agriculture University Peshawar and University of Haripur finally got regular vice-chancellors after long delay as formal notifications to this effect were issued late Friday night.
According to notifications, Prof Dr Jan Bakht, vice-chancellor of Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak was appointed as vice-chancellor Agriculture University Peshawar, while Prof Dr Anwarul Hassan Gilani, chairman Pakistan Council of Science and Technology, was named as vice-chancellor University of Haripur for a term of three years.
However, vice-chancellor for the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar could not be notified. The process for appointment of the vice-chancellors of the three universities had been completed simultaneously.
The three universities were without a regular vice-chancellor for the last one and half years. Interview for the three positions had been conducted in November last year and a panel of three candidates each had been recommended for them. The summary for Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University has also been approved and the incumbent vice-chancellor Dr Razia Sultana has been chosen for the job for another tenure. But it was unclear as to why her notification was withheld.
