ISLAMABAD: Federal information minister Senator Pervaiz Rasheed has promised all-out support for hockey in an effort to raise the standard of the game to international level.
He was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of First Anwaar Feroz Memorial Hockey Tournament that Apex Club won edging out Al Abbas Club on penalty strokes 7-6 at Naseer Bunda Ground late Friday.
The minister said that soon the required funds for hockey would be released. “What we want is to see the amount being spent on hockey activities and on leading hockey players who represent the country,” he said.
“We would never leave hockey players in the cold as they are our heroes and had won laurels for the country. We want to see the return of hockey glory. For that we would take all possible steps,” he said.
The tournament was played in the memory of Shaharyar Khan, father of National Press Club president. Besides sizeable crowd, Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera was also present on the occasion.
