Action against 46 quacks
LAHORE: Punjab Healthcare Commission has sealed 46 businesses of quacks. During the last four days, the PHC enforcement teams had checked 400 treatment centres in five cities, including Lahore.
Out of the visited centres, 46 were sealed while 142 quacks had changed their businesses. Out of the sealed centres, 17 were in Chichawatni (Sahiwal district), Gujrat 11, nine each in Kasur and Sheikhupura.
In Lahore, the team had visited 46 centres, and sealed five quacks’ businesses, which included Aijaz Clinic, Khalid Naushahi Medical Store, Awais Clinic, Ramzan Clinic and Allah Ditta Clinic.
SNGPL: Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Ltd (SNGPL) has initiated inquiries against several employees in order to promote transparency, merit and fair-play within the company, said SNGPL spokesman.
He said as many as 37 employees have transferred out from their existing departments on a company wide basis. A number of disciplinary inquiries were pending against these employees which prompted this action. One employee has been terminated after completion of inquiry proceedings.
Moreover, 11 transfers were made in the sales and admin departments in line with the overall objective of continuous job rotation on a company wide basis. PU seminar: Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) organised a seminar titled ‘Current Trends of Democracy in the World’.
Prof Dr Staffan I Lindberg, Director V-Dem Institute, Department of Political Science, University of Gothenberg, Sweden & Wallenberg Academy Fellow was the keynote speaker. Prof Staffan gave a detailed presentation on the topic. He covered topics related to early definitions of democracy, followed by types of democracies witnessed in history and also discussed the prevailing trends of democracy in the world and gradual change from liberal democracy to electoral autocracy. Faculty members and MPhil/ PhD scholars attended the seminar that was followed by a discussion session. CSAS Director Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid also spoke on the occasion.
honoured: Punjab University (PU) Department of Zoology’s Associate Prof Dr Nadeem Sheikh has been awarded ‘Zoologist of the year Award 2019’ for his outstanding contributions in the field of Zoology.
The award was conferred on him in the opening ceremony of the 39th Pakistan Congress of Zoology held at Islamia College Peshawar.
In October 2003, Dr Nadeem was awarded scholarship by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) for higher studies leading to PhD in Georg-August University, Goettingen, Germany.
Youhanabad tragedy: Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs Ijaz Alam Augustine has said that the entire nation especially the Christian community can’t forget the tragedy of Youhanabad of March 15, 2015 when two suicide bombers attacked Saint John Catholic Church and Christ Church during weekly Christian service.
The minister stated this in his message on the eve of the anniversary of the tragic incidents. He said that those who had done that did not belong to any religion because no religion teaches to commit such horrible crimes.
Transfers, postings: Sajjad Ahmad Khan, Director (Land Record) Board of Revenue, has been transferred and posted as Joint Director Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) against a vacant post, while Nadeem Abbas Bhangoo, Secretary (Taxes) Board of Revenue, has been given additional charge of the post of Director (Land Record) Board of Revenue till further orders. In this regard Services & General Administration Department has issued notifications.
