Inter-varsity women tennis begins
ISLAMABAD: The 42nd All Pakistan HEC Inter-Varsity Women Tennis Championship 2019 got underway here on Wednesday with a colorful opening ceremony at the PTF Complex, says a press release.
The tournament, featuring teams from 13 universities from across the country, will conclude on March 15.
Matches will be played in singles and doubles categories.
HEC Chairman Dr. Tariq Banuri was the chief guest on the occasion. Pakistan Tennis Federation President Salim Saifullah Khan, Mayor of Islamabad Sheikh Anser Aziz, Andre de Bussy of the French Embassy, S A Elegoda of the Sri Lankan High Commission, HEC’s Director General Sports Mohammad Faisal Butt, Deputy Director Qazi Abid, tournament’s coordinator Aoun Abbas Hashmi and other guests were also present at the opening ceremony.
Banuri thanked the PTF for extending support to the HEC in organising the event. The mayor also appreciated the concerted efforts of the HEC and the PTF in organising such healthy activities.
As many as eight matches of the first round and two matches of the second round were played on the opening day of the tournament.
Results: First round: Punjab University (Lahore) beat Islamic University (Bahawalpur); Fatima Jinnah Women University (Rawalpindi) beat Comsats University (Islamabad); Bahauddin Zakariya University (Multan) beat UET Taxila University; Superior University (Lahore) beat Agriculture University (Faisalabad); University of Central Punjab beat Fast University (Islamabad); Quaid-i-Azam International University (Islamabad) beat Islamic International University (Islamabad); University of Lahore, and Lahore College for Women University got first round byes.
Second round: Bahauddin Zakariya University (Multan) beat Superior University (Lahore); University of Central Punjab beat University of Lahore.
