Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Central Vice President Sherry Rehman on Friday filed the nomination papers with the Election Commission for elections on a vacant Senate seat to be held on June 18.
Former provincial minister for Katch Abadies of the PPP Nadeem Bhutto filed his papers as a covering nominee.
The scrutiny of the papers would be held on Saturday.
The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Abdul Latif Ansari who was elected Senator of the PPP in the recently concluded Senate elections.
Sherry after having been elected unopposed following Bhutto’s withdrawal would be elected on the general seat from the Sindh for six years.
While speaking to the media, she claimed to raise the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor issue in the Senate and asked for a complete devolution of power to the provinces under the 18th amendment. She also served as the Minister for Information during the last PPP tenure.
