The king of poetry
March 14, 2019
The works of the revolutionary poet, Habib Jalib, are as relevant now as they were a couple of decades ago. With his fiercely democratic views, Jalib bravely opposed martial law and state oppression. This greatly unsettled the authorities which even sent him to the prison, but Jalib was unstoppable. Throughout his life, Jalib used his words to amplify the voices of invisible people who spend their lives in acute poverty. His poems are still being quoted and discussed. Nothing can make him bow down before the powerful. It was his strong opinions that continue to resonate with a large number of people in today’s age too. He has taught us the lesson of strength and bravery.
