Two dacoits killed in Faisalabad encounter

FAISALABAD: Two alleged dacoits were killed during a police ‘encounter’ near Chak 233/RB ON Sunday night.

A police party was on its way for recovery on identification of an accused when two dacoits Arshad and Nasir opened fire at the police, which was retaliated. As a result, both dacoits were killed.

UAF organises nutrition camp: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Monday established a nutrition camp to educate public about preventive measures to curb different diseases, including dietetics, hepatitis, cancer, heart diseases, and others. The camp was inaugurated by Dean Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences, UAF, Dr Masood Sadiq Butt who was flanked by Dr Ayesha Sameen and others. Talking to participants, he said every tenth citizen of Pakistan was victim of hepatitis and one of the major reasons was the usage of used syringes. He said the victims had to make the vegetables and fruits as their diet. He also said that 17 million people in the county fall victim to the disease. He said one of the six deaths was caused by cancer Dr Masood said despite having plenty of food, we were facing malnutrition crisis. He urged the people to use balanced diet and adopt physical activities in their daily lives. He said that 50 percent of population was facing malnutrition. He said education about nutritive and balanced food at school level would help overcome the issue. Dr Masood said high blood pressure was the most important modifiable risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and heart failure. He said: “Hypertension affects approximately 40 per cent of adults globally while the ratio in the country is 50 per cent. Healthy lifestyle will help decrease the prevalence of this disease in the country population is also important.”

BOOK FAIR FROM TODAY: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad is organising a three-day book fair at its Main Library from March 12 to 14 to promote book reading habit among the students. The fair will be inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa at 10am in which publishers across the country are setting up their stalls and the books would be sold on subsidized rates. It is an annual feature of the varsity to arrange the fair in which hundreds of the books lovers visit. The fair will remain open for books lovers from 9 am to 7 pm. Different ranges of books including art, humanity, agriculture, business, literature, history, Islamic books, basic and applied sciences, etc, will be put on display for sale.
