Rain emergency declared in city

The Sindh minister for local government has declared rain emergency in Karachi and canceled all sanctioned leave of the municipality staff as necessary preemptive measures for expected rainfall in the metropolis.
In compliance to the Sharjeel Memon’s directives, the district administrators have placed staffers on high alert and ensured updated contingency plans to handle situation consequent to storm and rainfall.
All relevant machines, including suction pumps, were being kept in working order while rain emergency centres have been made functional round the clock. — APP
News Desk adds: A day earlier, gusty winds and light thunders with dirt and sand was reported from different parts of the city but there was no rainfall or light drizzle, the metrology department stated.
According to the met office, the rain gauge showed no rainfall in the city but slight rainfall was expected tomorrow in Karachi. However, citizens and TV channels reported light drizzle in Liaquatabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gushan-e-Hadeed.
‘Civic employees on alert’
Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon has issued directives to cancel the holidays of all the employees of the local government departments after the heavy rainfall in Hyderabad and rain predictions in Karachi.
He has ordered the commissioners and administrators of Karachi and Hyderabad, all the deputy commissioners, MD Water board and administrators of all the districts for the surveillance of different areas along with their staff.
The minister has asked the authorities to take effective measures to avoid any complaint from the citizens.
