It is a widely-recognised fact that there exists a deep and direct relationship among development, security and the economy. An ailing or fragile economy disrupts the security of the country and prevents the achievement of development programmes. A country which experiences no economic and social development cannot claim welfare. The three factors are interrelated, which means that the authorities ought to ensure national security in order to support development programmes that lead to social well-being. Our rulers of what they call Naya Pakistan must ponder over this point. They should also keep in mind that high informality creates widespread resource misallocation, which in turn lowers productivity.
