FAISALABAD: Two people, including a woman, committed suicide in separate incidents on Thursday.
Zareena Bibi of Kot Shakir, wife of Abdur Rehman, was reportedly upset over some domestic issues and on the day of incident she swallowed poisonous pills and died at Allied Hospital. A labourer of Chak 197/GB, Muridwala, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan.
FCCI: The Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) is playing a key role in resolving the issues being confronted by the business community of Faisalabad. However, in order to further strengthen this elected platform, every legitimate trader must get the membership of FCCI.
Addressing a meeting of the FCCI Standing Committee on Liaison with Trade Association here, FCCI president Syed Zia Alamdar Hussain said that Railway Road Traders Association had been specially invited to interact with the office-bearers of FCCI. “It will provide them an opportunity to understand the working and importance of this platform in resolving their collective as well as individual issues. He explained in detail the role of FCCI and also lauded services rendered by Sikandar Azam to enhance the membership of FCCI. He told that our members were enjoying multiple facilities including visa recommendation letter. “Our proposals are also included in the federal budget and hence, every segment of economy must be taken on board for the resolution of their budget related problems”, he added.
He also requested Railway Road Traders Association to identify their core issues and forward the same with necessary and viable solutions so that the same could be included in the budget recommendations.
Rana Sikandar Azam, Chairman FCCI Standing Committee, said that FCCI had 7,000 members within its fold. They belonged to diverse fields and almost hundred sectors had been identified with their dedicated and separate standing committees. He also underlined the importance of tax culture and said that only NTN (National Tax Number) holders could get the membership of this prestigious trade organisation. He further told that FCCI recommendations were given positive response from the government departments.
Muhammad Kashif, chairman Railway Road Traders Association, identified his problems and complained that tax officials were unnecessarily harassing their members. Secretary Aftab Ahmed Butt told that he fully understood the importance of FCCI and in this connection three awareness programmes had already been arranged.
150 profiteers, hoarders arrested: Price Control Magistrates Thursday arrested 150 profiteers and hoarders in a crackdown on Thursday.
Cases against 156 shopkeepers were registered on charges of profiteering. The accused were also fined Rs 5,835,000. Some 62 shopkeepers were arrested in Faisalabad district. Some 165 retailers of consumer goods were also booked. Some 16 profiteers were booked in Toba Tek Singh district and a fine to the tune of Rs 1,291,000 was imposed on them. In Chiniot district 61 profiteers were arrested. The commissioner has directed the magistrates to continue the drive against profiteers and hoarders of essential commodities.
TWO DIE ON ROAD: Two people, including a minor boy, died in separate road accidents on Thursday.
Motorcyclist Muhammad Yaqoob of Chak 337 (New Lahore) died when a speeding car hit him on a roadside, leaving him dead on the spot.
A minor boy of Makkuana died when a speeding tractor trolley hit him when he was crossing a road.
