The fact that the CJP has ordered that those who give false testimony should be punished is laudable. It is not only false witnesses but also false police reports and medico-legal reports which have distorted the shape of our society. Cases, which under the law have to be decided in two months, do not get decided for years. Criminals especially connected to Qabza groups with even more than 100 FIRs in their name conveniently get bails through the help of false testimonies.
We need to ensure that courts too have their own independent investigation system to decrease the heavy reliance on the police.
