This refers to the letter ‘Handle with care’ (March 2) by Tayyaba Nazeer. The writer has correctly painted the dismal condition of Shikarpur. I lived in this city for more than a decade in the 1950s. It was a beautiful city bubbling with vibrant life and had a busy railway station, a famous rice market and delicious sweetmeat shops. As for the historical places, Lucky Dar and Shahi Bagh were worth visiting.
When I visited the city in the 1970s, I witnessed the dilapidation that had overtaken it. The railway station was deserted, heaps of refuse with stink and a ghostly appearance. I was disappointed to see the changed scenario. The elected MNAs and MPAs from the city should take measures to uplift the city and revive its past glory
