COMSATS institute upgraded into university
ABBOTTABAD: The COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) has finally been upgraded into a university. A notification said the president had approved a 16-member of Senate of COMSATS University Islamabad as chancellor of the university.
The notification, issued by Joint Scientific Advisor Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, stated that in terms of Article 48 (1) of the 1973 Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, read with clause-18 of the COMSATS University Islamabad Act 2018, the president, in his of capacity as chancellor of the COMSATS University, approved the members of the university Senate.
President of Pakistan as chancellor would be the chairperson of the Senate while minister for science and technology and executive director COMSATS as ex-officio members would be pro-chancellors.
Other ex-officio members will include rector, secretary Ministry of Science & Technology, secretary Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Trainings and pro-rector who would be nominated by the rector.
