Huzaifa stuns Mudassir in Pak Open Tennis
ISLAMABAD: 16-year old Huzaifa Abdul Rehman stunned fourth seed Mudassir Murtaza in a hard- fought three-set match in the men’s singles of Pakistan Open Tennis under way at Jhelum Cantonment.
Following wet start that saw rain dominating the proceedings, quarter-finals of the championship were played Friday with Huzaifa who recently had become first Pakistani to win ITF Junior following a decade beat experienced Mudassir 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Huzaifa had earlier defeated fifth seed Heera Ashiq in the second round.
In yet another surprising result, Yousaf Khan beat Mohammad Abid 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to make it to the semi-finals.Also making it to the last four stage in men’s singles were top seed Aqeel Khan and seasoned Muzammil Murtaza.
In ladies singles semifinals, top seed Sara Mansoor and Mehek Khokhar progressed into the final. Sara breezed past Mahvish Chishti and Mehek stunned second seed Esha Jawad in straight sets.
