GUJRANWALA: In connection with the killing of MPA Rana Shamshad Ahmed Khan and his son Shahbaz Ahmed Khan, Kamoke Saddar police have registered a case against eight persons under murder and terrorism charges on the complaint of Rana Liaquat, a maternal cousin of the deceased legislator.
Four of the nominated accused include Rafiq Virk, Shahbaz Virk, Sarfraz Virk and Faqir Mohammad, while other four are unidentified.
Rana Shamshad and his son, murdered on Sunday, were laid to rest at their ancestral graveyard in Kamoke. Thousands of people from all walks of life attended their funeral prayers at Wakil Khan Stadium. Prominent among them were Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal Ahmad Khan, all MNAs and MPAs of Gujranwala division, and officers of administration and police as well as media persons.
The law minister said the alleged killers have been identified and would be arrested soon and punished.
An injured nephew of the deceased and a gunman are under treatment at a Lahore healthy facility.
Online adds: Rana Sanaullah said Rana Shamshad murder was a result of targeted killing and soon the killers would be bought to justice.
Gujranwala RPO said investigation has been launched against PPP leader and four others who are political opponents of Rana Shamshad. Educational institutions, business centres, markets, local industries and power looms remained shut in Kamoke city and roads gave a deserted look. Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Monday claimed responsibility for the killing of the MPA.
