DERA ISMAIL KHAN: In an apparent incident of target killing, unidentified gunmen shot dead two low-grade employees of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) in the limits of Cantt Police Station in the city on Monday, police sources said.
The sources said the assailants armed with sophisticated guns opened fire on Qaiser Abbas, 38, and Dilawar, 22, leaving them critically injured. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, but they succumbed to injuries on the way. The assailants fled the scene after committing the crime.
The slain men were deputed at the sub-office of the TMA in Islamia Colony. Beefing up security at the entry and exit points of the Dera Ismail Khan city, the police launched a search operation after the incident, but no arrest could be made. The police registered a case against the unidentified accused. The bodies were handed over to relatives for burial after fulfilling the medico-legal requirements.
The Dera Ismail Khan district has seen an increase in targetted killings in recent days. Some of the attacks are sectarian in nature. Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) local leader Faisal Karim Kundi expressed concern over the fresh wave of violence and demanded the arrest of the perpetrators behind the killings.
