This refers to the letter, ‘Kalabagh benefits’ (May 28) by Azhar Panni. The writer is of the opinion that Sindh would get 4.75maf of additional water share from the Kalabagh dam as compared to 2maf of Punjab. This is unbelievable. In fact the division of additional water storage will be 37 percent each for Punjab and Sindh. This would be over and above their normal share of water as per the Water Accord of 1991.
As regards the flooding of Nowshera/KP post-Kalabagh dam construction, that is a highly technical issue even for civil engineers. However, the writer should study Wapda records of the 2010 floods in the River Indus/Kabul, recorded as 961ft at Nowshera and 922ft at GBHP complex. These levels would have gone up by about 25ft, ie, 947ft at BPC post-KBD.
