KARACHI: Police investigators on Saturday revealed that a couple found dead in the Surjani area a few days ago had been murdered in the name of honour apparently on Jirga orders in Karachi.
The bodies of a 25-year-old man and a young woman were found in a hill area near the Hub Dam within the limits of the Surjani police station on Wednesday.
As no identity papers were found on the victims, their bodies were shifted to a morgue in the Saddar area after medico-legal formalities at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The victims were later identified as Naseeb Zar Khan, son of Sher Bahadur, and Bibi, daughter of Wajid. The two hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and lived in the Islam Nagar area of Karachi’s Orangi Town.
According to Surjani SHO Idrees Bangash, the man had gone missing in July 2018 while the woman had been reported missing the very next month.
The police finally managed to identify the deceased after a member of the man’s father, Sher Bahadur, approached the Surjani police station and identified him to be his son, Naseeb Zar Khan.
The father told the police that his son had left their house in July 2018 over a family dispute and since then he had been missing.
“Once he had phoned a family member and told them that he was in Lahore. Since then, he had been out of reach.”
He said that a month after his son’s disappearance, a young woman, Bibi, daughter of Wajid, had also gone missing from the same area.
According to SHO Idress Bangash, the family of the woman have gone into hiding following the incident, and it seems that the couple was killed apparently in the name of honour on orders issued by a Jirga.
He suspected the woman’s family might have been behind the incident, who after killing the two dumped their bodies at the desolate spot.
The officer said that an FIR on behalf of state had been lodged against unidentified persons and further investigations were continuing.
