The immature statements of some government representatives are not only fracturing relationships with the opposition, but also creating fissures with our international allies. The most recent example is that of the reaction of the Chinese company that was awarded the contract of the Sukkur-Multan motorway project. The company has categorically rejected the allegations. This is not the first example of its kind. Whatever happened to the ruling party’s claims that rule of law shall be its primary approach to governance. Sustainability of regimes, historical evidence amply shows, is achieved if the fundamental principle of governance is based on rule of law.
