KARACHI: Pakistan’s Mazhar Jafri, President Emeritus, Bridge Federation of Asia & Middle East (BFAME) has been appointed as the reviewer for the ongoing 18th Asia and Middle East Bridge Championships 2015, being held at Amman, Jordan.
“In pursuant with the policy of the World Bridge Federation (WBF) of doing away with the procedure of players appealing against the TD’s ruling, the BFAME Council in its meeting held prior to the opening ceremony on has appointed Mazhar Jafri, President Emeritus, BFAME, and Vice President, WBF, as the ‘Reviewer’ for the event,” the tournament bulletin reported.
“Incidentally, Mazhar Jafri happens to be the desired eminent lawyer by profession who has decades of experience as head of previous appeal committees,” it added.
The meeting was attended by delegates of seven countries out of nine which are participating in the ongoing championships.
It was also decided that a group of players would be consulted by Tournament Directors before giving a ruling involving TD’s own judgement and later on by the Reviewer or his team members. The list of players comprises of Bahjat Al Majali (Jordan), (Mohammad Azwer-ul-Haque (Pakistan), Teodoras Maci (Bahrain), Syed Shujauddin Ahmed (Bangladesh), K.R.Venkataraman (India), Mirza Shauq Hussain (Pakistan), Antoni Sevanayagam (Sri Lanka) and Humayun Sumar (UAE). According to the relevant section of BFAME general conditions of contest, the request for a review of a Tournament Director’s ruling must be lodged within 30 minutes of the first posting of the official score for the session in which the board was played that is the subject of the ruling.
