OKARA: Four unknown armed thieves shot dead a cattle owner when the latter tried to resist the theft of his cattle at village 29/2R on Sunday night.
The thieves untied the ropes of Niaz’s buffalo. Niaz woke up to the noise and offered resistance but was shot dead by them.
The cattle lifters fled the scene. Sadr Okara police have shifted the corpse to the hospital and registered a case agains the accused.
Camp set up for potato exporters: The Department of Protection of Vegetation (DPV) has established a temporary camp for the facility of potato exporters following the long-standing demand of the Okara Potato Growers Society.
Like previous years, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Research had established the DPV camp office under the supervision of entomologists Dr Khalid Zafar and Ghulam Raza and other officials.
The staff would check the filling and loading of the potato and issue a certificate and for this purpose, the potato exporters had to travel to Karachi.
Potato is cultivated in Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur and Sahiwal. The camp office would work here for two months.
14 kite flyers, sellers held: At least 14 kite flyers and sellers were nabbed by the police during a crackdown here on Monday. Those who arrested included M Akram of Jhugian, Amir of 5/4L, Hamid of Siddiquenagar, Kashif of City Stop, Haseeb of Tariq Colony, Haroon of Mohallah Ahmedabad, Awais of Basti Riazul Muslimeen and others. A large pile of kites and strings were recovered. Cases have been registered against the accused.
