LAHORE: Hundreds of Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers staged a sit-in near the Governor’s House Friday evening to protest against the reappointment of Rana Sanaullah as the provincial law minister whom the PAT leadership accuses of ordering the Model Town killings.
The protesters raised slogans after they were stopped by police at a distance from the Governor’s House where the oath-taking of Rana Sana and Aisha Ghaus Pasha was taking place. The protesters, led by PAT secretary general Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and others had marched from China Chowk towards the Governor’s House after Friday prayers but they were first stopped at two places.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur while addressing the workers alleged that the reappointed minister was the mastermind of the Model Town tragedy. He said the appointment hds further exposed the self-proclaimed democratic Punjab chief minister and his love for democracy who has taken an undemocratic step.
Terming the JIT report on the Model Town killings a pack of lies which gave a clean chit to those who ordered the killings and blamed the innocent PAT workers of the crime, Gandapur said the JIT had summoned 42 witnesses on May 30 and it was surprising that the main accused of the killings took oath as minister one day before it.Gandapur asked what price Abdul Razzaq Cheema had received for putting his stamp and sign the report. He said the PAT was in the process of intimating world leaders.
