This refers to the letter ‘The tale of the airport’ (February 15) by Malik Tariq Ali. Besides the loss of Rs30 billion spent on the parallel runway, an additional cost was incurred to make the runway useable for the Airbus A-380 aircraft. At present, only one foreign airline is in a position to use the facility. Its manufacturer recently announced ending the aircraft’s production owing to poor demand. I doubt anything would come out if the authorities concerned chose to investigate massive corruption in the project. Unfortunately, accountability against high-profile individuals in this country has been put on a back burner.
