This refers to the news report, ‘Firing by SHO kills bar president, colleague in Daska’ (May 26). Lawyers are supposed to uphold the law whereas the police implement it. Both these groups have a duty to uphold the sanctity of the law but what happened in Daska shows the opposite.
An SHO killed two lawyers. The lawyers responded aggressively as well. They set the house of the assistant commissioner of Daska and the office of DSP and TMO on fire. This should not have happened in the first place. Where is the state? Where is the government? And above all where is rule of law? All this shows that both lawyers and the police have failed to fulfil their responsibilities as upholders of the law. Rule of law has to be maintained if we are to flourish as a democracy.
