47 booked for attacking police party to shelter PO From Our Correspondent OKARA: As many as 47 villagers have been booked for sheltering a proclaimed offender (PO), injuring a policeman and taking hostage a police party, according to police on Sunday. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mushtaq Ahmad of Chak Bedi police station in district Pakpattan headed a six-member police team to Depalpur police station to arrest PO Habibur Rehman alias Shahzad alias Shahzadi alias Sooni, son of Javed Iqbal Bhatti, in village Nawan Kot. Constable Karam Din of police station Saddar Depalpur was directed to join the raiding party. Police said when the raiding party reached near the house of Habibur Rehman, some villagers raised an alarm to alert the PO, who opened fire on them. Others also joined in to attack the police. Constable Shahid Mehmood received a bullet injury in the leg, but he succeeded in getting hold of the PO. Meanwhile, a big crowd gathered at the site and held the police party hostage, according to the police. They forced the police to go to the dera of a local landlord Fakhar Hayat, son of Muhammad Hayat. The landlord assured the police that no highhandedness would be committed against the raiding party. However, later on villagers attacked the police party, beat them up, tore their uniforms and got released the PO Habibur Rehman. The police later took the injured constable Shahid to THQ Hospital and a case was registered at police station Saddar Depalpur. MAN SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead for grazing his goats in the fields of the murderer here. One Javed Akhtar, son of Adeel Akhtar Chaddhar of 20/1AL, was grazing his goats in his fields the other day. His goats entered the fields of the neighbours Maqsood Ahmad, Muhammad Ali, Alam Sher, Zubair and Saddam Hussain. They exchanged harsh words on the spot and in the evening attacked him when he was sitting at his father’s shop with his brothers. They opened fire on them. A bullet hit Maqsood Ahmad in the chest and another in the leg of a passer-by Ijaz Hussain. After that, they fled the scene. Maqsood was rushed to a hospital but he succumbed to his wounds. A case was registered with Shergarh police station.
