Artificial shortage in makeshift markets

WRONG price fixation issues caused shortage of number of vegetables and fruits in the makeshift markets of the city as the vendors refused to sell to the consumers.
The vendors said their buying price was much higher than the officially fixed price in the list. However, the market committee officials said they were unable to change the price. They admitted that some vegetable rates in the wholesale market were much higher than the price issued in the list.
They said it was wrong fixation of price at the wholesale level. This week the potato price was gained by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs14 to 16 per kg. The price of onion was reduced by Rs4 per kg and fixed Rs35 to 40 per kg. The price of tomato was increased by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs50 to 54 per kg, sold at Rs60 per kg. Garlic China was fixed at Rs130 to 140 per kg, garlic local at Rs80 to 90 per kg, while local was sold at Rs120 per kg. Ginger China was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs175 to 185 per kg, ginger Singapore was gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs140 to 150 per kg, while it was sold at Rs200 per kg. Spinach was fixed at Rs9 to 11 to per kg, but not sold in the makeshift markets while in open markets sold at Rs40 per kg. Brinjal was gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs25 to 28 per kg and sold at Rs30 per kg. Cucumber local was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs25 to 30 per kg, cucumber farm at Rs10 to 13 per kg, while both were sold at Rs30 per kg. Bitter gourd local was reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs35 to 38 per kg, and farm at Rs15 to 17 per kg but sold at Rs40 per kg. Zucchini round farm was reduced by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs18 to 20 per kg, and Zucchini local Rs30 to 34 per kg and sold at Rs50 to 60 per kg.
Green chilli farm was fixed at Rs40 to 43 per kg, local at Rs50 to 60 per kg and both were sold at Rs80 per kg. Capsicum was declined by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs25 to 27 per kg and sold up to Rs30 per kg. Pumpkin was reduced by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs20 to 23 per kg and

sold at Rs50 per kg. Luffa price was reduced by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs30 to 35 per kg and sold at Rs40 per kg.
Ladyfinger was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs70 to 75 per kg and sold at Rs80 per kg. Arum price was increased by Rs14 per kg, fixed at Rs70 to 80 per kg and sold at Rs100 per kg. Lemon local was gained by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs200 to 216 per kg and sold at Rs240 per kg. The price of different variety of apples was fixed at Rs78 to 160 per kg, while sold at Rs120 to 160 per kg. Melon local was fixed at Rs35 to 43 per kg, Melon Chinese at Rs35 to 41 per kg, while sold at Rs50 per kg. Watermelon was fixed at Rs15 to 20 per kg.
Strawberry was fixed at Rs78 to 83 per kg, but was not available in makeshift markets. Papaya was sold at Rs95 to 102 per kg and sold at Rs120 per kg. Banana A quality was fixed at Rs75 to 80 per dozen, B-quality at Rs50 to 60 per dozen and sold at Rs80 per dozen. Peach Special was fixed at Rs130 to 14 per kg, and peach normal at Rs70 to 75 per kg, while mixed quality was sold at Rs100 to 140 per kg. Phalsa was fixed at Rs170 to 185 per kg and sold at Rs200 per kg. Plump price was fixed at Rs180 to 190 per kg and sold at Rs240 per kg. Apricot yellow was fixed at Rs80 to 88 per kg, white at Rs170 to 180 per kg and sold at Rs200 per kg. Mangoes of different varieties were fixed at Rs70 to 105 per kg and sold at Rs80 to 100 per kg.
