39 kids, 2 teachers hurt in school building roof collapse CM takes notice, seeks report From Our Correspondent MULTAN: Thirty-nine children and two lady teachers were injured when the roof of a private school in a village Ali Wala collapsed on Multan-Muzaffargarh Road, here on Saturday. Rescue sources said nine seriously injured children were removed to Nishtar Hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger. Some of them were identified as Danish (12), Marym (8), Zohra (8), Sawera (7) and Sumera (8). Multan District Coordination Officer Zahid Saleem Gondal visited the scene and said the school principal was taken into custody. A violent mob comprising parents and relatives attacked the police vehicle and attempted to manhandle the principal. Rescue 1122 official Abdul Jabbar said they had provided immediate medical aid to 15 children at the site. An operation was initiated to rescue the children trapped under the rubble. Two teachers, who were present in the school when the roof collapsed, were also rescued. Rescue officials said 16 students were sent home after the first aid. The school was registered with the Punjab Education Foundation and its owner was getting funds from the government also. Muzaffarabad (Multan) police have registered a case against the owners. Thirty-three students who were provided first aid were: Yousaf, Zeshan, teacher Surayya, Faizan, Raza, Kaif, Awais, Asad, Husnain, Masud, Mubashir, Akmal, Sumera, Farzana, Rimsha, Noor Fatima, Alishba, Mansha, Rifat, Hifza, Mnahil, Fatima, Kiran, Maria, Adila, Zubi, Sabra, Saqlain, Iqra, Rabia, Jaweria and Sadia. Our Lahore correspondent adds: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the secretary schools education. He directed the chief secretary to monitor the rescue activities. He also directed the Multan commissioner and the DCO to accelerate the relief activities. He said that all possible treatment facilities should be provided to the injured teachers and students.
NAB recovers Rs3m from NGO From Our Correspondent MULTAN: The Regional National Accountability Bureau has recovered Rs3 million from an NGO, which had collected the money from public fraudulently. The NAB officials also arrested NGO people for investigation. NAB Multan Region spokesman Ahmed Bajwa said the NGO registered with Quetta Social Welfare Department had illegally sold loan forms in convenience with the Punjab Bank officials and received Rs3 million from the public. The NGO misguided the public for issuance of loan without mark-up and the NGO had been receiving money since February 2014. The NGO people have shown their willingness to pay the collected amount. The NAB board, headed by Multan Regional Director General Tariq Nadeem Mehmood, has approved repayment of the amount to the public.
