Heat wave leaves 43 dead in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

HYDERABAD: Heat wave in several parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has claimed 43 lives so far even as people continued to reel under shooting day temperatures, officials said on Friday.
“As per the information received till yesterday the toll in Telangana is 21,” Revenue Secretary B R Meena told PTI.
Reports from Andhra Pradesh districts, quoting official figures, said 22 people have died due to the heat wave that has been sweeping parts of the two Telugu states.
Telangana Government has issued “Do’s and Don’ts” list for the people, who have been asked not to venture outside when the day temperatures are high.
Parts of the districts of Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Karimnagar are among the worst-hit by oppressive heat, said Director of Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, Y K Reddy, who added that day temperatures are forecast to rise further till Sunday.
Khammam, where the temperature touched 47 degrees Celsius, was among the places where severe heat conditions prevailed, he added. Heat wave has also been sweeping parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Quoting District Collector H Arunkumar, a report from Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh said eight people have died due in East Godavari district in the last three days. The district has been under the grip of heat wave witnessing high temperatures ranging between 42 to 45 degrees Celsius.
Mercury soared to 42 degrees Celsius at Kakinada, 43 in Rajahmundry town and 44 in Tuni, according to local Meteorological Department officials.
Six people lost their lives due to sun stroke in Srikakulam in the last three days, district revenue officials said.
