KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers Sindh will be extending total support to the inaugural eight-a-side Indoor Night Cricket Festival being organised by the Jalaluddin Cricket Academy (JCA) here in Korangi later this month.
This was announced by Jalaluddin, a former Test fast bowler, at a press conference.
The tournament will be held from May 23 to 31.
“The Rangers authorities have committed to support us logistically as well as financially,” Jalaluddin said.
He added that Javed Miandad, a former Pakistan captain, would also be involved in promoting the event, the first of its kind being staged in Pakistan.
“We are introducing a new concept of eight-a-side cricket which is very exciting and engaging format. It will provide quality entertainment for the masses who will be encouraged to visit the ground with families,” Jalaluddin stated.
The eight participating teams have been divided in two groups for the league matches.
The Group A comprises Vital Five Cricket Club Tigers, Dubai Hawks, Front Line Titans and OK Strikers.
The Group B has Eaton Bulls, Bin Qasim Warriors, Soni Thunders and North Shire Fighters.
Two matches will be held every night. All the matches will be 16-overs-a-side contests in which each pair will bat for four overs and every bowler will send down two overs. There will be a deduction of five runs with the fall of every wicket. The non-striker’s crease will be halfway down the wicket while two runs will be added for no balls and wides.
A specially adapted soft ball will be used in all matches.
Nazim Saleem, Chief Collector Enforcement, Sindh, described the tournament as another feather in the cap of Jalaluddin.
“It’s quite remarkable that Jalaluddin and his team have continued to do wonders for the promotion of cricket. I assure my wholehearted support to all such endeavours,” he added.
Also present on this occasion were Khalil Masood, ex-chairman, Corporate Law Authority, Nadeem Omar, Managing Director Omar Associates, Jahangir Moghul, President Karachi Gymkhana, and Prof Siraj-ul-Islam Bokhari, former president Karachi City Cricket Association.
