Liver patient dies after transplant

LAHORE
A 65-year-old patient, who was recently underwent liver transplant at Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore, expired on Monday.
Akhtar Ali, a liver patient, was operated upon for liver transplant at Shaikh Zayed Hospital a few days ago, but his condition remained unstable. He died on Monday. Zulfiqar, Akhtar Ali’s son, who had donated part of his liver to his father, is under treatment in ICU of the hospital, whose condition is stated to be stable.
When contacted, Dr Tariq Bangash, the liver transplant surgeon at SZH, said that the patient had died due to medical reasons rather than any complication during the liver transplant procedure. He elaborated that it was the first casualty among liver transplant patients, for they had achieved 100 per cent success rate among all 47 liver transplant surgeries conducted at Shaikh Zayed Hospital since the start of the service.
“We have developed a dedicated team of three surgeons and support staff, which is conducting toughest operations ranging between 12 hours to 16 hours,” he said adding that they had been conducting operations at a minimum possible cost of Rs 3million, which actually cost around Rs 5.5 to 6 million in other countries.
He said the Punjab government had allocated an amount of Rs 190.5 million for starting a state-of-the-art liver transplant centre comprising two theatres and 8 beds at Shaikh Zayed Hospital, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in September 2015 upon completion of 50 liver transplant surgeries at the facility.
pickets: Chief Traffic Officer Tayyab Hafeez Cheema has said the City Traffic Police are taking action against violators by setting up ten pickets at the entry and exit points of the City.
He said the department had set up pickets at Thokar Niaz Beg, Ghazi Road, Gulab Devi, Liberty, Ichra, Niazi Shaheed Chowk, Co-op Store, Governor House, Garhi Shahu and Istanbol Chowk. SPs and DSPs are also monitoring these pickets, he added.
The officials deployed at these check-points are taking action against the vehicles using tinted glasses, without registration number plates and green number plates. The CTO also directed the wardens to deal with the citizens politely.
reshuffled: The Punjab government has transferred nine officers and placed their services at the disposal of Anti Corruption Establishment for further posting and also approved ex-Pakistan leave of three officers on Monday.
Nadeem Ejaz, Amanat Ali, Abdul Shakoor, Khalid Nasim, Jehangir, Shahjehan Babar, Nazar Hussain and Talib Hussain have been transferred and their services have been placed at the disposal of Anti Corruption Establishment for further posting.
Meanwhile, the provincial government has approved ex-Pakistan leave for Secretary Communication and Works Mushtaq Ahmed, Secretary Irrigation Capt. (Retd) Saif Anjum and an officer of Anti Corruption Establishment Tariq Javed.
