A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday dismissed as withdrawn a 17-year-old petition moved by former president Asif Ali Zardari seeking cancellation of a drugs case lodged against him.
As hearing started, Asif’s counsel Ch Aitzaz Ahsan withdrew the petition as trial court had already acquitted Zardari of charges. According to prosecution, the drugs case against Asif Zardari was registered when he was in Karachi jail because of other cases.
Qila Gujjar Singh police had registered an FIR No 525 against three accused namely Asif Ali Zardari, Arif Baloch and Shorang Khan on September 23, 1998.
Zardari was implicated in the case after the confessional statement of accused Arif and Sharang who undertook that Zardari had been providing drugs to them to smuggle abroad.
